In 1977 Stirling Fibre along with its parent company Inveresk Paper revolutionised the manufacture of envelope paper, moving from the use of wood pulp and manila hemp to 100% secondary fibre.
To satisfy the mills demand Stirling Fibre for the first time began trading in the waste paper industry, thus Stirling Fibre trading was born.
With its management experience in paper making and in the use of secondary fibre as a pulp substitue they were unique in the waste paper industry.
A working partnership agreement with Stirling Stubbins in Ramsbottom was entered into with one thing in mind, the use of secondary fibre for tissue manufacture.
Within twelve months Stirling Stubbins were using 600 tonnes per week of waste paper for tissue manufacture.
The trend was then set for paper manufacture to replace wood pulp with waste paper involving Stirling Fibre to source raw materials throughout the UK
Stirling Fibre currently supply almost every major paper mill in the UK along with our exports to Europe and the Far East, we also work closely with other paper processors to find regular markets for their products.
